Data Storage Allocation for Faculty

A Data Storage Allocation of 5 TB is available to UC Berkeley faculty that can be used across a set of technology services. This project is a two-year pilot that will begin rolling out late fall semester of 2025 and run through fall 2027 to develop and optimize the provisioning process for storage needs, along with helping to determine and plan for the ongoing level of capacity required As part of this pilot, Research IT is providing storage through the following two services:
  • Computational Storage: Storage designed for use in high-performance and high-throughput computing. This storage requires use of the Savio high-performance computing cluster.
  • Secure Storage: Storage designed to meet security requirements for highly sensitive (i.e., P4) research data. This storage requires use of the Secure Research Data and Compute (SRDC) platform.
Faculty who are eligible for this service will receive an email with a link to the request form and further instructions. This storage allocation, along with a set of services provided by dedicated staff, supports researcher productivity while also strengthening campus research data cybersecurity posture, aligning with growing compliance requirements from funding agencies, and enhancing protection of Berkeley’s intellectual property. This service is provided collaboratively by Research IT, Berkeley IT, and the Library. For more information about the pilot in general, view the webpage or contact research-storage@berkeley.edu
