Status and Service Updates
Mon, 10/27: Scratch File System Back Online
We have restored the scratch file system, and it is online now. However, this issue might occur again, so we will continue to work with our vendor, DDN, and the datacenter team to find a permanent solution. We appreciate your patience.
Mon, 10/27: Savio Scratch File System Down
The scratch file system is not accessible due to a power issue affecting one of the racks. The problem causes a significant loss of power to scratch file system controllers, and this has been happening intermittently over the last few weeks. User jobs running in these circumstances might have failed, or scratch I/O might have paused during the time scratch is inaccessible. After investigating with the help of our vendor, DDN, hardware issues have been ruled out. We are working closely with the data center team (DC) to investigate the root cause of the issue and implement measures to prevent it from happening repeatedly. We will provide an update once the investigation is complete.
Mon, 10/6 & Wed, 10/8: Savio IDM will undergo brief maintenance
The Identity Management Team has planned maintenance this week on Monday, 6th October, and Wednesday, 8th October, from 4 pm to 7 pm. A brief interruption to identity services, particularly those related to Shibboleth, Grouper, identity linking, password reset, group creation, and RADIUS, is expected. Savio/Vector users may experience delays when logging in to the terminal and the OOD web portal during the maintenance window. We will keep you updated on the status if anything changes.

Survey launched about “Understanding researcher needs and values about software”
Software is as important as data when it comes to building upon existing scholarship. However, while there has been a small amount of research into how researchers find, adopt, and credit software, there is currently a lack of empirical data on how researchers use, share, and value software and...Read more about Survey launched about “Understanding researcher needs and values about software”
A free & fully-loaded JupyterHub server supports campus research computation
An initial cohort of Berkeley researchers has already made productive use of an experimental, powerfully-provisioned server loaned to UC Berkeley by the Pacific Research Platform (PRP) project and configured with JupyterHub. This free resource is administered by a partnership between Berkeley...Read more about A free & fully-loaded JupyterHub server supports campus research computation
