Hybrid: in-person in Dwinelle 128 and via Zoom
Join us for a training on using Visual Studio (VS) Code on the Savio computing cluster. VS Code is an Integrated Development Environment (IDE)—a tool that can manage, edit, and run code all within one unified interface—which features multi-language support for most commonly used languages and debugging, git integration, notebook support, AI autocompletion via Github Copilot, and a large library of additional extensions to add more functionality and customize your workflow. We will cover the basics of using VS Code; how to work with VS Code remotely on the Savio computing cluster via Code Server through Savio’s Open OnDemand (OOD) service; customizing your own interactive computing workflows (e.g., with custom Jupyter environments); and how to use LLMs like GitHub Copilot for live coding assistance. The training will be held both in-person at the Academic Innovation Studio (128 Dwinelle) and over Zoom. Please RSVP in advance to help us plan for the event.
There are no technical prerequisites for this tutorial, but some familiarity with the Open OnDemand service could be helpful. In order to follow along during the tutorial, users should have an active Savio account. For more details on getting a Savio account, please see: http://research-it.berkeley.edu/services/high-performance-computing/getting-account
This training will be recorded and then posted on the Research IT Youtube Channel
