Research IT welcomes IT Architect Jason Christopher to our team. Jason will be working on both the Berkeley Research Computing (BRC) and the Research Data Management (RDM) programs, to which he brings his campus experience and analytic acumen.
For the past two years, Jason was the IT Policy and Process Lead at SLAC National Accelerator Lab (Stanford University/US Department of Energy). At SLAC, he developed lab-wide cyber-security policies and led the review and alignment of IT processes with new SLAC, Stanford University and federal policies.
Prior to joining SLAC, he served as the Technical Director of UC Berkeley's Synthetic Biology Security Program, where he managed the development of an Experiments of Concern Web Portal for scientists conducting dual-use research and VIREP, a virulence factor, web application for use with genetic sequence screening.
While at Berkeley, he was also the Director of Information Technology and a Lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy.
His interests focus primarily on the technologies of research computing, data management, cyber security, and the development of open-source software and tools.
More generally, he is interested in emerging instructional, web and cloud technologies and their effects on legal and political issues in society. Mr. Christopher has an MA in Legal and Political Theory from University College, London. He has lectured frequently on cybersecurity, innovation and emerging IT ecosystems at the Goldman School of Public Policy and Changsong Consulting.
