Applications are now open for the second annual Digital Humanities at Berkeley Summer Institute (DHBSI). DHBSI will offer intensive training in digital humanities tools and methods from August 15 to 19.
This year’s course offerings include:
- Qualitative Data Analysis
- Data Workflows and Network Analysis
- Database Development Using Drupal
- Geospatial Analysis
- Computational Text Analysis
DHBSI is open to faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students affiliated with Berkeley through fall semester 2016. The program is free of cost for all participants. Participants are encouraged to apply in research teams to provide an ongoing foundation for projects. Teams might be composed of a faculty member and a graduate student, two graduate students, a graduate student and an undergrad, or any other combination of roles.
In addition to training, participants will also have ample time to consult with instructors about their projects. At last year’s institute, participants used project time to parse a 19th century US agricultural census, develop Python scripts for metrical analysis of medieval German, map out data structures for a network of Vietnamese intellectuals, and reconceptualize a large database of linguistic annotations.
