UC Berkeley helps LYRASIS sustain and expand CollectionSpace

Members of the CollectionSpace community at UC Berkeley are actively participating in working groups recently formed by Atlanta-based non-profit LYRASIS, the software’s organizational home. Berkeley, with five major campus collections cataloged and managed using this system, plays a significant role in the ongoing effort to sustain and expand CollectionSpace in the museum community.

The LYRASIS groups focus on the following areas:

CollectionSpace service gains manager and technical lead

John B. Lowe

John Lowe has accepted the role of technical lead and manager for the CollectionSpace service at UC Berkeley. CollectionSpace is an open-source collections information management system used by five UC Berkeley museums, and other museums around the world.

In his new role, John oversees systems operations and maintenance, collaborates with museum staff to address their collections management needs, and designs and develops web applications, reports, and other software related to CollectionSpace.

LYRASIS to Establish an Organizational Home for CollectionSpace Museum Collections Management Software

Atlanta, GA - January 24, 2014 - LYRASIS is pleased to announce that it has received funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to bring CollectionSpace, an open source, web-based collections management system (CMS), to museums and other collecting organizations.

CollectionSpace 2.5 released

The CollectionSpace team is pleased to announce the release of CollectionSpace version 2.5. This release is the culmination of the first six-months of 2012 and represents improved functionality for search, locations and movements, date handling, controlled vocabularies, and hierarchical authorities. In addition, refactoring work was completed in the user interface layer.
