Savio cluster storage quadrupled to support Big Data research

The campus’ Savio computing cluster received a major storage upgrade on June 12, 2015, when its Global Scratch file system was quadrupled in size, to a massive 885 terabytes (TB) of storage. The upgraded storage is also 250% faster, providing a peak bandwidth of over 20 GB per second, to better meet the demands of data intensive computations.

Please welcome RJ (Ruijing) Li and Regina Xu, UC Berkeley students who have joined the UCB CollectionSpace team for the summer. Regina and RJ are undergraduates majoring in Computer Science. They have completed the initial CS61 rite of passage, and bring some experience with Python, Java, Javascript, and other programming tools used to support CollectionSpace.

This year’s Summit spanned three days, and included a wide variety of presentations and professional development opportunities for Information Technology staff -- broadly defined -- throughout campus.

Research IT Staff at Digital Humanities Summer Institute at University of Victoria

The Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria constitutes the largest annual gathering of North American digital humanists.  21 members of the UC Berkeley community, including students, faculty, and staff, will be attending DHSI this year.  They come from departments around campus, such as New Media, History, Spanish & Portuguese, Research IT, and the Library.
